"Immigration and Adult Education" Project Results
This year we, Gebze Public Education Center, successfully completed our KA1 Adult Education project. The main focus of the project is on migrants and adult education, as can be understood from the title.
Our institution is located in an area where immigrants live heavily. Our institution, which currently provides training to more than 30,000 adults a year, has also started to provide training to immigrants at an increasing rate in recent years. Our institution has staff members who work to assist adult immigrants with their education, inclusion and other different issues, and it is essential for our institution to develop their competences by adopting a European framework. We have prepared this project because we aim to develop our teachers' experience and knowledge on the education of immigrants through exemplary practices and methods in Europe, and to increase the education quality of our institution and to share the experiences with other institutions and organizations both in our city and in our region, and to ensure that immigrants are more educated and better adapted to our society.
The aim of this project is to broaden participants' understanding of the current and complex issues surrounding refugee and migrant communities and the different approaches and solutions adopted in different contexts. In the host countries, the participants were able to compare their own way of working in the field of migrant education in Europe. The focus of this training has been both to be able to communicate effectively with people of different origins and to gain 'hands-on' practical skills that work to improve the lives of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
Within the scope of the project, training was held for our participating teachers at the course center in Italy. During this training, the participants received training on topics such as immigration, immigrant education, inclusion, social inclusion, and adult education. In order to disseminate the knowledge and experience gained after the training, meetings were held with stakeholders working with immigrants in our region, primarily within the institution.
As a result of the planned and implemented trainings, the knowledge and skills of the participants increased in three main topics:
-Awareness about immigrants/refugees
-Integration and social inclusion
-Immigrant and adult education
As a result of the training activities, our participants increased their competencies in these three subjects. The participants, who did not have detailed information about immigrants and immigration before the training, gained knowledge about immigration, the needs of immigrants and the psychological aspects of immigration after the activity. In this way, they gained the ability to better understand the situation of immigrants.
In terms of integration and social inclusion, the participants improved their communication skills with people from different cultural backgrounds. By knowing how to take steps to prevent exclusion of immigrants in society, they have learned how to apply inclusion and social inclusion in both their personal and professional lives.
The participants, who already have a certain level of knowledge about immigrants and adult education, have increased their skills in improving the quality of the education they will give to adults and especially to immigrants.
