European Disability Employment Week 2015

The first ever European Disability Employment Week is taking place this year.

L’ADAPT, a French association for social and professional inclusion of persons with disabilities, is organising the week from 16 to 22 November.

The aim of this initiative is to promote matching between employers and employees with disabilities and to raise awareness about disability issues. The idea behind this dates back from 1997 when L’ADAPT first started organising this event (called SEEPH at the time) for France.

In 2014 there were over 400 events organised in France. Alongside L’ADAPT many partner countries prepared their own events to raise awareness and organised training programmes, especially in enterprises. The Disability Employment Week contributes to changing the perception of disability in business and society.

The employment sector for persons with disabilities is quite varied across Europe depending on the socio-economic development of the countries. There are about 80 million Europeans with disabilities and only 20% of them are employed (according to EASPD findings).

As part of the DESC project, L’ADAPT and its European partners organise the first International conference to launch the European Disability Employment Week. The event is taking place on 12 November at the European Parliament.
