CUED SPEECH EUROPA: free resources available thanks to Erasmus Plus funding

After two years, the Erasmus Plus project “CUED SPEECH EUROPA” has almost concluded.

In a previous article, we described the history and main features of Cued Speech: Discover Cued Speech Europa! | EPALE.

For a quick reminder, the Cued Speech is a visual code to facilitate the comprehension of spoken language for deaf or hard of hearing persons, by decreasing the ambiguity of lipreading.

Cued Speech is a visual communication system used with and between people who are deaf or hard of hearing. It is a phonetically based system that makes spoken languages visually accessible by using a small number of hand shapes, (representing consonants), in different locations on and around the face, near the mouth (representing vowels) to convey spoken language in a visual format.

Now it’s time to present the many resources created with the support of Erasmus Plus funding:

1) A book on the practice of Cued Speech, to explain its history and its main characteristics for those who do not know them

2) Two online training courses on cueing and cue reading Cued Speech in French, Italian and Polish

3) Downloadable exercises and flash card series to test yourself with the lesson learned on Cued Speech

We are proposing a free set of digital resources to approach the Cued Speech and acquire the first notions, starting to turn them into practice.

Where to find all these resources?

First, visit the website: www.cuedspeech.eu

On the right, you can select the language you are interested in.

The only English resource is the book.

We have created the others in the selected languages: French, Italian and Polish.

Once you select the language (for example Italian in the picture below), by clicking on “Resources/Risorse”, you can discover them.

During the last months, our expert partners have been presenting the project and its results during final event: 16th September in Lublin (Poland), 24th September and 14th October in Brussels (Belgium) and 17th October in Turin (Italy).

Now it’s your turn: let’s navigate our website and start discovering the Cued Speech all over Europe.
