AI and Meaningful Learning: Reflections on the ERASMUS+ Training in Malta
Between 21 and 27 October 2024, the Qualifica Centre had the opportunity to participate in the “AI Tools for Meaningful Learning and Training” course, held in St. Paul’s Bay, Malta, under the ERASMUS+ programme.
During an intense and inspiring week, we delved into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential in adult teaching and learning. The course, led by a specialist in andragogy, combined critical reflection with practical activities, always aiming to understand how AI can make the educational process more meaningful, personalised, and inclusive.
Throughout the sessions, we explored various digital tools and built an AI “toolbox” tailored to our specific contexts. We also discussed the ethical challenges of using these technologies and shared experiences with educators from several European countries, in an atmosphere of true collaboration and mutual learning.
For the Qualifica Centre, this experience was much more than a training course: it was a moment of growth, inspiration, and pedagogical innovation. We strengthened our digital competences, discovered new ways of teaching and learning, and brought back ideas that will certainly enrich our daily work.
Outside the classroom, we also had the opportunity to discover Malta’s history and culture, with visits to Mdina, Valletta, and Ta’ Qali — moments that allowed us to experience the true European spirit of sharing, discovery, and cooperation.
In summary, this ERASMUS+ experience confirmed what we believe in: when used with pedagogical intent and human purpose, technology can be a powerful ally for learning, valuing people, and promoting inclusion — principles that lie at the heart of the mission of Qualifica Centres and the EPALE community.
