Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe

Podcast series featuring Irish adult learners

by Laura Austen-Gray
Language: EN

AONTAS in partnership with Near FM and with the support from the Communicating Europe Initiative 2019, is running an Irish and European Identity-themed podcast series featuring adult learners.

This podcast series will feature diverse voices of adult learners representing their Irish and European identity through open and inclusive dialogue. They will discuss their experiences of engaging with European-based opportunities, (study visits, European events, European Social Funded (ESF) programmes and projects or initiatives funded through Erasmus+.

The podcast will highlight the value of the EU for adult learners, educators, and others in a meaningful, informal and inclusive way that deepens their understanding of the value and impact of European Identity. This will be in addition to each learner sharing their personal story and the impact adult learning has had on their lives.

In their work on learner voice, AONTAS has found that the personal, heart-felt approach creates a strong connection for the Irish public in understanding the challenges people face in going back to education and recognising the need for creating inclusive learning opportunities to support the most marginalised residents of Ireland. This series will be a new and creative approach for AONTAS, with the hope of reaching further audiences in a meaningful way. It aims for listeners to feel like they’re part of this informal and open conversation as they explore the experiences and share the perspectives of adult learners in Ireland.

Know an adult learner?

Do you know an adult learner who would like to share their story? If so, AONTAS will support the adult learner every step of the way. AONTAS will meet them or speak with them one-to-one and plan the session with the learner directly. It is the learner’s story and therefore it is the learner’s voice that will guide the conversation. It’s about sharing what the learner is comfortable with, being them self, and discussing the issues and experiences that are important to the learner.

AONTAS will have a free Podcast training workshop with Near FM on August 28th (10 am to 1pm). This isn’t mandatory but may help the learner prepare for their recording session.
