Key Competences for LifeLong Learning


The word "competence" means a mixture of knowledge, skills and attitudes. If you perform well in a particular situation, you are considered to be an “official”. Being competent means not only knowing something or having an idea about certain issues, but also putting information into practice in a certain context and situation.
The European Union has identified 8 Key Competencies that allow every citizen to adapt to changes in society. These key competences are important for personal development and development, for working life, education and learning new things. These should be available to everyone. Young people who are educated must have these key competencies to prepare for adult life, while older adults and adults must continuously improve their knowledge within the scope of Lifelong Learning.
These 8 Key Competencies are:
1. Communication in the mother tongue
2. Communication in a Foreign Language
3. Basic Competencies in Mathematics- Science and Technology
4. Digital competence
5. Learning to Learn
6. Social and Citizenship Competence
7. Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Approach
8. Cultural Consciousness and Expression.
1. COMMUNICATION IN MOTHER LANGUAGE: Communication in the mother tongue is the ability to express thoughts, feelings and facts both verbally and in writing (listening, speaking, reading and writing), and to interact with other people appropriately in education, work, home, and leisure.
2. COMMUNICATION IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE: Communication in a foreign language is closely related to our communication in our native language; it depends on the ability to understand and express thoughts, feelings, and facts both verbally and in writing, in business, home, leisure, education, and training environments. Communication in foreign languages also requires deep thought and intercultural understanding.
3.MATEMATICS- BASIC COMPETENCIES IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: Mathematical competence in general; Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and mental proportion is the ability to solve a number of problems in everyday situations using written arithmetic. Key competences in science and technology include the use and application of knowledge to explain the nature we live in. It also includes understanding nature changes resulting from human activities and the responsibility of each individual as a citizen.
4. DIGITAL QUALIFICATION: Digital competence requires the use of information society technology confidently and critically and thus the use of basic skills in information and communication technology (IT).
5. LEARNING TO LEARN: 'Learning to learn' is our ability to organize our own learning. This implies effective management of time and knowledge, both for ourselves and for groups. We must also be aware of our own learning processes and needs and identify different learning opportunities.
6. SOCIAL AND CITIZENSHIP QUALIFICATION: These competences include all kinds of behavior that we may need to participate effectively in our social and working life. Competencies associated with a social context are becoming increasingly important due to the diversity of societies today. These competencies can help us resolve conflicts when needed. Social and political concepts and structures, commitment to active and democratic participation, citizenship competences, equip us to fully participate in citizenship life.
7. INTRODUCTION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP APPROACH: This competence also refers to the ability to mobilize our thoughts, which is especially important for adult studies and initiatives. Includes creativity, innovation, risk-taking, as well as the ability to plan and manage projects to achieve desired goals. The individual is aware of the context of his work and can capture the opportunities that arise. This is the basis for acquiring more specific knowledge and skills needed by social or business activities or contributors. This should include awareness of ethical values and provide good management.
8.CULTURAL AWARENESS AND EXPRESSION: It is the acceptance of the importance of the creative expression of thoughts, experiences and emotions through a range of media, including music, artistic performance, literature and visual arts.
