Elm Magazine: Want to be part of making our next theme issue?

Our autumn issue 2021 will explore the relationship between research and practice in adult education - contribute your ideas and expertise!

Elm Magazine is a free online media on adult education and lifelong learning. We want to keep our readers up to date on the trends and phenomena of the adult learning world and illustrate how adult education is connected to wider societal questions. Future challenges cannot be tackled without learning.

We are always looking for journalists, adult education professionals, students and other people interested in lifelong learning to contribute to our theme issues.

Right now we are planning our autumn issue 2021, which will explore the relationship between research and practice in the field of adult education.

Some of the questions we want to examine: What is the role of research-based knowledge in the everyday education work, and vice versa? How could we bridge the gap between research and practice in the global education field? How are different initiatives and grassroot education projects using the latest research-based knowledge? What kind of examples exist on innovative dialogue between theory and practice in adult learning?

We are looking for a wide range of article types: news stories, interviews, (photo-) reportages, features, opinion pieces, videos. The important thing to keep in mind is that all stories should be linked to lifelong learning. The articles could be covering things such as:

  • Innovations or innovative research linked to the theme;
  • Interviews with interesting experts, educators or learners;
  • Case studies of formal and nonformal learning activities, grassroots communities and peer to peer learning;
  • Reporting topical debates about the theme in your country;
  • Lifelong learning and adult education policies on national and EU level;
  • Examples of pedagogical and didactic methods;

Please feel free to get in touch with even a very preliminary idea or just send us a tip on an interesting person or project we might want to cover! We are always happy to discuss ideas and develop them further together.

The deadline for pitches for this issue is 15th of August, but please send your ideas as soon as possible by emailing elm@kvs.fi.

This theme issue by Elm Magazine is part of The Year of Research-Based Knowledge, a joint initiative organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Academy of Finland and the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies. Its aim is to make research-based knowledge even more visible and accessible, and to intensify the collaboration between organisations working with research-based knowledge.

This is a call to share your job description - whatever the format is- and an invitation to share feelings about loneliness, or others, at the top of an adult education centre.
