Professional development of teachers is a continuous process lasting during the whole career. It is conducted in both formal and non-formal way, which entails seminars, workshops, round tables, professional cooperation with peers, action within professional networks, as well as self-checking of a professional literature and experiences of others, and the like. The most important part of the professional development of teachers are the activities implemented within the institution itself. Besides the fact that they improve the work of the teachers, the activities of professional development of teachers encourage teamwork and cooperation with colleagues in various fields of teaching process, from planning to evaluation of teaching, as well as the creation of the atmosphere of permanent changes within the institution. However, an inseparable part of professional development is the one related to digital competences.

A significant aspect of professional development of teachers is the provision of support to teachers and assistance in raising awareness on continuous professional development in the area of digital skills as essential part of a change which follows developmental phases in the career of teachers.

Digitally literate and competent teachers may teach their students about the possibilities, as well as the limitation of new technological tools, they may demonstrate to students how to unlock the whole new worlds of knowledge, as well as to warn them about numerous dangers present. Digital competency is a set of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for high quality usage of ICT with the aim of a mindful and safe improvement and learning both in the real and virtual world.

The above-said clearly indicates the importance of digital development of teachers, and a reliable example is the current situation related to corona virus and development of the concept of studying at home (#UčiDoma) confirms this. The strengthening of professional development concept is something that has to be our priority, as its benefits are felt by teachers, students and the whole educational system.
