Campus Basisbildung

People over 15 who cannot read and write? According to the PIAAC study (1), in Austria only 8.4% of the population can do that at the highest level and close to one million people are extremely deficient. Nevertheless, most are afraid of going to basic education programs that support learning to read, write, and calculate adequately.

The Campus Basisbildung project wants to make it possible for everybody to expand one's skills, regardless of one's level. Five associations (2) are therefore developing a modular and competence-oriented model in which different content is offered in different modules. The Kunstlabor of uniT Graz is working on a module in which nursing staff can continue their education in nursing documentation.

In blended learning mode, 60 presence and self-acting e-learning units make it possible to eliminate individual difficulties that participants have in their daily professional lives. Within the group of learners one focus lies on their respective needs and challenges. These will then be dealt with by the participants within the scope of this further education module with different offers, with different intensity and with different methods.

Central to basic education is, above all, to learn learning. Participants learn from each other, with each other and self-directed.  Learning should be fun, often in contrast to experiences that participants have made so far on their educational path. The content is always oriented towards the learner. What is needed in professional life, in everyday personal life, is learned.

The goal is to improve specific skills and abilities, to develop competences, to gain self-confidence and to make the ability to control one's own learning process visible.
