Accelerating Capabilities against Anti-gypsyism and Discriminations in Education Roma inclusion remains a paramount issue on the new EU Roma Strategic Framework 2020-30 as the recent global energy crisis which began in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the extreme exposure of excluded and marginalized Roma communities to negative socioeconomic impacts. Nevertheless, overall progress in Roma integration has been limited over the past 10 years, even if Education is the area that progressed the most. The ACADE_ME project intends to create an opportunity to step up action to address the persistent failure in Roma integration by placing Education at the forefront of the fight against antigypsyism, discrimination, and disempowerment.
The consortium scheme of the ACADE_ME Project drawing on the evaluation findings of the previous framework and the annual assessments of the implementation of national strategies in Slovenia, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Republic of Serbia proposes a practical approach to combating antigypsyism in Education by:- Increasing access to knowledge/data on the impact and manifestations of antigypsyism in Education and especially in educators and social integration actors. Development of comprehensive materials against Roma students’ discrimination and enhancing the capacities of at least 300 educators and professionals in community centres/other local community services on Roma integration.- Enhancing the capacities of at least 180 Roma university graduates, as to create/ empower 6 national Roma Women Academic clubs to promote the emergence of positive change within the community, and become anti-discrimination ambassadors.- Raising awareness in and out of Roma communities and hinging very much on the education of Roma youth, as education is a critical factor in understanding modern reality and realizing social integration.- Enhancing the capacities of 60 Roma graduates (especially women) to become influencers of positive change by creating an initial comprehensive library of positive narratives.
