COMPe4Mi Project (Tools for professionals to assess and develop migrants’ competences)

The COMPe4Mi project provides tools for professionals to assess and develop migrants' competences. It is co-financed by the European Commission under the Erasmus + program, in KA2 - Strategic partnerships for adult education. The consortium consists of 5 organizations from 5 different European countries (Cyprus, Greece, Finland, Italy and Poland). The project coordinator is the Foundation for Somalia, whose partners are Enoros Consulting Ltd, Organization Earth, ASDA RY and FormazioneCo & So Network. The project runs from 1/10/2017 to 30/09/2019.

What are the objectives of the project?

The overall goal of the project is to strengthen intercultural education among professionals working with migrants (adult educators, trainers, specialists, training service providers from training centers for migrants, NGOs and enterprises), while improving the migrant’s skills and competencies with a focus on integration into the labor market and social life. Providing practical skills related to diversity management at work environment with people from different social, cultural and multi-ethnic background is a priority task.

Why is practice in adult learning so important?

This job shadowing lays emphasis on observing experts at their work, by giving the opportunity to migrants to gain practical experience. It helps migrants understand how an organization is structured, especially in the desired business industry. This form of training supports the development of entrepreneurship, and in the long term - a professional career, directly related to the interests of the participant. It encourages mentoring and openness in acquiring knowledge and provides tips about the tasks performed during the internship.

The project aimed at giving the opportunity to participants to gain knowledge about their potential career path and acquire experience in a selected field or improve their skills in any area of ​​interest. During the first part - substantive and educational - a training was prepared for the participants, that covered the following  5 modules: awareness of their own abilities and focus on the relevant sector of work or volunteering; development of soft skills (interpersonal, communication, building self-confidence); opportunity for professional development (training, official certification of knowledge and skills); professional orientation (rights and obligations in the workplace, etc.); and lastly, practical experience.
