The workshop will showcase change oriented adult education practices and tools, and give a chance to reflect how adult education can take a more proactive role in the digital transformation of our society. Professor Jyri Manninen from University of Eastern Finland will introduce the theoretical background of the change oriented learning approach. Other presentations include:

  • How can science fight beliefs in healthcare? We will hear about a project which deals with an intimate issue of trust between the medical community and the public and tries to tackle the issue of false and opinion-based beliefs in medical or alternative treatments in social media.
  • How can we create a more informed democracy by increasing understanding of artificial intelligence (AI)? We will hear about an ambitious project of Finnish digital consultancy Reaktor and Helsinki University to demystify AI so that anyone will have an opportunity to shape the future.

Further information of the workshop agenda and other presentations will be provided soon. Participants will use various interactive methods to reflect upon how adult education can help to manage the challenges of digitalisation, and discuss how these practices can be transferred to their organisations and countries. In the morning 12 December a study visit will be organised to XEdu. xEdu is a business accelerator for educational technology startups creating transformative learning solutions with pedagogical impact. Study visit is for maximum 15 participants, primarily for participants arriving to Finland with Erasmus+ KA1 mobility grants. The workshop is organised by the Finnish Lifelong Learning Foundation (KVS) in cooperation with the FuturelabAE project consortium.
