This survey paper examines selected issues related to the intersection of three broad scholarly areas: numeracy, adult education, and vulnerability. Numeracy encompasses the ways in which people cope with the mathematical, quantitative, and statistical demands of adult life, and is viewed as an important outcome of schooling and as a foundational skill for all adults. The focus on vulnerability stems from the realization that concerns of policy makers and educators alike often center on populations seen as vulnerable. The paper is organized in fve sections.

In this forum, I argue that adult literacy education needs to be repositioned within a new framework of lifelong and life-wide learning, a framework in which new policies are formulated, programs are designed and evaluated, and research is funded and carried out. To appreciate how much this suggested framework differs from the neoliberal framework in which adult education is currently embedded, it is worth considering briefly how neoliberalism has gained its foothold in (some would say its stranglehold on) adult education.

The purpose of this self-study guide is to help adult literacy education providers collect, organize, and analyze evidence that they can use to improve program performance. It was designed to help educators consider which types of evidence to collect and which components of adult education instruction may be important for evaluating implementation. Sources of evidence for this review include records and data such as lesson plans, rosters, and student results confirming that processes are in place to monitor teacher and student success.

Neoliberalism has been the prevailing economic ideology in the United States for the past four decades; and, as Stephen Reder alludes to in his article, A Lifelong and Life-Wide Framework for Adult Literacy Education, the core tenet of neoliberalism is a faith in “free markets” to address all social, political, and economic ills. Neoliberal doctrine promotes free trade, deregulation of business and industry, decreased government spending, and greater privatization of services, and it regards individuals first and foremost as economic actors (i.e., workers and consumers).

Historically, American education has functioned as the benefactor and disseminator of nature education, although that role has diminished in direct proportion to the diminutive presence of American natural landscapes. This withdrawal has led many to adulthoods typically devoid of a sense of place on the planet, as well as potentially limiting the ability to experience the sublime or mystical insights of life.

This research aims to design and implement primary student worksheets that can trace scientific literacy through distance learning in the topic Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19). The approach used is mixed method sequential exploratory model involving 35 primary students who take the distance learning due COVID-19 as a sample. The research instrument uses primary student worksheets designed based on the core stage of the scientific approach and scientific literacy’s indicator, that have been reviewed and judged by experts.
