This is a dual-narrative story: Juhani Pörtfors 68 and Matti Sarviranta 70+.
They are volunteer workers, digi-guides in a referee association. Their backgrounds are quite different; Juhani Pörtfors is an adult educator and Matti Sarviranta is an engineer. They are peer tutors and they are trained to work as Digi-guides.

In disasters, the role of education and learning is increasingly seen as important. This study considers how community learning in disasters may be conceptualized using an ecological model of learning that operates on different levels, from small and incremental to large and paradigm changing. These types of learning are not independent, but are interdependent. This is a dynamic model of community learning compared to approaches that consider learning as a mere aggregation of individual responses.

The aim of the study is to make social sciences teacher candidates integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Web 2.0 technologies in social sciences courses. This study was conducted with 31 teacher candidates studying at Muallim Rıfat Faculty of Education of Kilis 7 Aralık University, in the department of Social Sciences Teaching. The action research model was used in the study. In addition, descriptive analysis method was applied to data analysis. Data collection tools of the study consisted of semi-structured forms.

The aim of this study was to explore whether adult EFL learners prefer to receive grammar explanations in class or via short videos watched as homework as the flipped classroom model suggests. Drawing upon the existing STEM studies the learners were assessed using short tests to determine the difference in knowledge of applying grammar rules of learners who received grammar instruction in class and those who received it via videos. It has often been many years since adult EFL learners last regularly learned something before beginning to study again, at a language school.

We live in unprecedented times. COVID-19 has shutdown large sectors of the economy, as well as entire education systems. Estimates from UNESCO1 show that around 90% of the world’s students are currently out of school. Like many of you, we are working from home, drafting this editorial from our home offices under shelter-in-place orders. Around the world, university campuses are closed and lecture halls stand eerily empty. Teaching and learning has moved primarily online, and the use of remote video conferencing has become commonplace.

Donna Moore is the the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Development Worker at Glasgow Women’s Library. She works with some women who have never learned to read and write – for many reasons: they may have experienced abuse or trauma, or are refugees, or have a learning disability. Other women are going back to college after a long period out of learning, or want to write their own story, or do a crossword, or read a poem. Everything Donna does is learner led.
