Coaching as a Way of Adult Learners’ Leadership Competence Development

The possible ways of applying coaching as a method of adult learners’ leadership competence development are disclosed in the article. The structure of holistic leadership competence is identified theoretically. Leadership competence is argued to be the one of the most important competences that presuppose the self-realization of adult people, their career success, motivation to achieve personal and professional goals. Research discloses the structure of individual leadership competence and argues that under the circumstances of continuous change, rapid technological progress, and knowledge society challenges people should posses “higher-order” skills such as emotional intelligence, critical thinking, diagnostic skills. Emphasizing the importance of leadership competence it is important to identify the ways of leadership competence development that could be used in modern adult education. One of the modern effective methods is coaching. Coaching is introduced as a means of effective leadership skills development. But the question raised in the article is whether coaching is an effective method to be used in adults’ education and what are the opportunities of applying coaching in developing adults’ leadership competence. Therefore research was designed specifically to answer these questions. Four certified couches – couching experts, took part in the interview. Qualitative data was processed applying interpretive descriptive analysis. The aim of the article is to provide methodic recommendations for applying coaching in developing of leadership competence of adults. The article discloses the benefits of coaching as an educational method; however it is emphasized that educators should acquire couching skills.
