Intercultural learning, main learnings

Intercultural Learning, main learnings.

Studying, traveling, living and/or working in a different country that one’s own, is an experience that more and more people have the opportunity to do, or even in some cases have no other choice. Therefore, cultural diversity is increasing rapidly in places such as Estonia and in Europe overall. I myself am one of these individuals that has had the opportunity to study and live abroad. As in international student at Tallinn University, I did my placement at Vestifex, an organization located in Narva that promotes adult education and much more. In this presentation I intend to share some of the most relevant learnings of my experience, focusing on intercultural learning as it was the common thread throughout the experience. Inviting you to reflect on your own intercultural experiences, your interactions with people for different countries, ethnic groups or cultures, to learn from others experience, their different backgrounds and to understand their beliefs and find common values, to explore new languages and embrace the challenge of learning from diversity. As “the ability to understand and communicate with each other across all kinds of cultural divisions is a fundamental prerequisite for making such societies (with increased diversity) work”. (Huber & Reynolds, 2014, p. 9).
