EPALE Slovakia in 2021

For NSS EPALE Slovakia, the year 2021 was extremely successful, despite the adverse circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We kicked off 2021 with a successful EPALE online conference "Challenges, Priorities and Opportunities for Adult Learning beyond 2020", which attracted more than 100 participants. The objective of the conference was to discuss the benefits of effective adult education policies and to present the objectives of the new EU strategic documents in this field, as well as to share current examples of good practice in the field of adult education for specific topics and innovative models of cooperation. Speakers and participants had the opportunity to comment on current topics and share examples of good practice in the form of inspiration. Video presentations from the EPALE conference are available online.

In 2021, the EPALE platform has undergone major visual and functional changes. New features of the EPALE platform include a new homepage, simplified content upload, new opportunities for international collaboration and many other improvements. We provide support to our users by conducting summer and autumn educational workshops focused on EPALE and know-how in the practical use of the EPALE platform.

A new activity in 2021 was a series of video-interviews and podcasts EPALE Slovakia. The aim of this activity is to respond to the low level of adult education in Slovakia and to provide examples of good practice with a focus on concrete solutions. In 2021, we created 11 podcasts with 14 interesting guests from different fields. We covered topics such as media literacy, critical thinking, basic skills support, career counselling and development, the necessity of digital skills for adult women, and more. You can watch the video interviews anytime on EPALE or listen to them on podcast platforms.

EPALE Slovakia organised one of the eight national panels that formed part of the pan-European EPALE conference organised by the European Commission. The event entitled "Barriers preventing adults from engaging in lifelong learning“ was moderated by Ivana Studená, EPALE Slovakia Ambassador.

Cooperation with our partner organizations and establishing new contacts is also our priority and therefore we actively participate in events organized by our partners. For the second time in 2021, we co-organised an online language knowledge quiz on the occasion of the European Day of Languages - LingvaKviz 2021.

On the basis of the EPALE Slovakia initiative, an informal space for Central European cooperation has been created, where together with EPALE Czech Republic and EPALE Hungary we will offer you new international activities.

An important part of the EPALE Slovakia team are the EPALE ambassadors Ivana Studená (Slovak Academy of Sciences), Erika Novotná (University of Prešov), Peter Maľa (Association of Lecturers and Career Counsellors in Slovakia) and Laco Oravec (worker in the non-profit sector).

The year 2021 was also marked by the recognition of the work of EPALE Slovakia. Just this year, the EPALE Slovakia team won the Association of Adult Education Institutions Award for 2020 in the category: Popularisation of Adult Learning.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to EPALE Slovakia being among the top 10 most visited EPALE language versions in the EU in 2021, together with Italy, France, Germany and other countries.

Remain in our favour in 2022!

EPALE Slovakia Team
